Durga Pujo is more than just a religious celebration - it is a celebration of art, culture and creativity. Most Pujo Committees nowadays have just one thing on their minds - how to make their Pujo stand out.
This spirit of innovation and the 'theme Pujo' route had its seeds laid way back in 1985 when three eminent Kolkatans - quiz master and MP Derek O'Brien, screenwriter Sumit Roy and poet Subhash Mukhopadhyay came up with the idea of honouring the best three Durga Pujos of Kolkata - the 'Asian Paints Sharad Shamman' was born. Sponsored by Asian Paints, the Award gave Bengal's artisans and craftsmen wings to soar high on imagination and innovation to create some of the best Durga Pujo pandals that we see since the last decade or so.
Over the years, many others followed Asian Paints Sharad Shamman to honour pandals across the country including Snowcem Shree Leathers Pratidin Pujo Awards, ABP Ananda Pujo Awards, Zee 24 Ghanta Pujo Awards, Zee Bangla Pujo Awards and more.
